Persian Barberries
Premium Persian Barberries: The Ruby Red Superfood
Iran is the undisputed global leader in the production of seedless barberries (Berberis vulgaris). Known for their vibrant ruby-red color, unique sweet-and-sour flavor profile, and exceptionally high levels of Vitamin C and antioxidants, Persian Barberries are highly sought after by the global food, culinary, and nutraceutical industries. At Hober Tejarat Pasargad, we supply premium, meticulously sorted barberries to international wholesalers, restaurant chains, and extract manufacturers, ensuring maximum freshness and purity.
Our Commercial Barberry Varieties
We supply the two primary commercial grades of Iranian barberries, distinguished mainly by their harvesting and drying processes:
1. Pofaki Barberry (Puffy)
The most premium grade of barberry. The branches are carefully harvested and hung in well-ventilated, dark drying rooms (shade-dried) for several months. This slow process ensures the berries retain their puffy shape, bright red color, and exquisite flavor. Pofaki is the top choice for luxury culinary applications, retail packaging, and gourmet markets.
2. Daneh Anari Barberry (Pomegranate Seed)
Harvested by separating the berries from the branches immediately and drying them under direct sunlight. This faster drying method results in a slightly darker red color and a more compressed, flat shape. Daneh Anari is highly cost-effective and is widely used in bulk food services, jam production, and the extraction industry for health supplements.
Quality Assurance & Export Standards
- Advanced Sorting & Cleaning: Barberries naturally contain stems, leaves, and occasionally small stones. We utilize advanced color-sorting and laser technologies, followed by manual inspection, to ensure the final product is virtually free of foreign matter.
- Moisture & Pesticide Control: We strictly monitor the moisture content (typically kept below 16%) to prevent fermentation and mold during transit. All shipments can be accompanied by lab reports verifying that pesticide residues comply with destination market regulations.
- Optimized B2B Packaging: To protect the berries from moisture and oxidation, we package our barberries in 8kg to 10kg export-grade corrugated cartons, lined with food-grade, moisture-proof polyethylene bags.

What is the difference between Pofaki and Daneh Anari?
The difference lies entirely in the drying process. Pofaki is shade-dried over several months, resulting in a brighter color and plumper shape, commanding a higher price. Daneh Anari is sun-dried quickly, resulting in a darker color and flatter shape, making it more economical for processing.
How should barberries be stored after delivery?
Barberries are highly sensitive to heat and light, which can cause them to darken and lose their vibrant color. For long-term storage, we strongly recommend keeping them in a cold storage facility (ideally between +2°C to +8°C) in a dry, dark environment.
Do you provide Phytosanitary and Health Certificates?
Yes. Every export shipment of our barberries is inspected by the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture and is accompanied by an official Phytosanitary Certificate, ensuring the cargo is free from pests and diseases, alongside standard commercial and health documents.
